18. Mar 16, 2005 [11:21 AM ] I will be in the Physics Tutorial Center from 6:00 until 8:00 today (Wed). The final will have 6 quiz-question-sized questions and 1 question double that size. There is approximately one question from each chapter. I recommend studying the quizzes and the homework from chapters 6 and 8, first; then the homework from chapter 7; then the chapter summaries; and finally, the homework from the first 5 chapters. Good luck and get lots of sleep. - Chris

17. Mar 3, 2005 [20:00 hrs] As announced in the Wednesday lecture Quiz 8 will be based on chapter 6 and will emphasize sections 6.5-6.8.

16. Feb 28, 2005 [2:15 pm] Check your grades online. The Quiz Sum column is the sum of your best six quizzes. Email crs@physics.ucsd.edu if there are any typos.

15. Feb 23, 2005 [19:20 hrs] Quiz 7 will cover sections 6.1-6.6. HW problems from sections 6.7-6.8 are carried over to next week.

14. Feb 18, 2005 [2:15 pm] Graded blue books for quiz 6 will not be available for pick-up until Wednesday morning.

13. Feb 16, 2005 [20:50 hrs] Quiz 6 will cover sections 5.5-5.7 and 6.1-6.4

12. Feb 10, 2005 [18:45 hrs] As announced in the wednesday lecture, the quiz will be on sections 4.5 and 5.1-5.5

10. Feb 4, 2005 [14:42 hrs] For the rest of the quarter, students will have the opportuntity to earn extra credit towards the quiz scores by presenting homework problems at the Problem Solving Sessions on Thursday nights. (C hris)

9. Feb 2, 2005 [12:14 hrs] Quiz 4 will be on Sections 3.5 (Compton Effect), Sections 4.1 - 4.4.

8. Jan 31, 2005 [20:00 hrs] Sections 4.1- 4.2 are the reading assignment for week 5. These topics may be important for the quiz this friday.

7. Jan 19, 2005 [23:30 hrs] Quiz 2 will all of chapter 1 and sections 2.1 thru 2.2 and 2.4 from the textbook. We will carry over the concepts on Fission and Fusion in Section 2.3 for quiz 3 (after discussing it in the fourth week's lecture) although the material is easy to read and the HW problems on this are not complicated.

6. Jan 18, 2005 [16:30 hrs] Now, quiz grades are really posted and blue books really are at the Physics UG office in Urey Hall Annex. There was a slight curve due to a difference between graders; make sure your score online is better than or equal to the score on your blue book. You have exactly 1 week to submit regrade request to Chris. Do not give the regrade requests to Prof. Sharma. Student number 122, I (Chris) do not have your name, so email it to me.

5. Jan 13 2005 [03:57 hrs]   Quiz Instructions posted. Pl. follow them in all quizzes and final exam.

4. Jan 12 2005 [13:20 hrs]   Quiz 1 this friday will cover sections 1.1 thru 1.6. Prof. Sharma will do the discussion and problem solving session this week.


3. Jan 4th 2005 [15:51 hrs] Pl. review chapters 16 (Waves) , 34 (EM Waves), 37 (Interference & Diffraction) and Appendix A (Math refresher) from your old textbook Physics for Engineers and Scientists (3rd edition) by Wolfson and Pasachoff (ISBN 0-0321-3571-2). Some copies will be placed on the library reserve.
